project: doily lantern

So after seeing this post over on Belinda Graham’s v. excellent and v. addictive blog The Happy Home I decided to have a go at making one of these lanterns myself. I won’t bother doing a tutorial because really… she’s better at explaining things than I am and.. well.. you can just read hers! The only things I did differently were to use my hot glue gun instead of double sided tape (see.. I told you it was a love affair) and looking back at hers I clearly used about a thousand more doilies.. whoops! This did make it slightly more time consuming than I thought it’d be, but really, I think I got pretty much the whole thing done while watching an episode of McClouds Daughters (which I was NEVER interested in before, but now that repeats are being shown on GEM while Jonty is sleeping it has become scarily addictive).. so about an hour or so.

Now to find a spot in the house for it! I think it’ll go in our bedroom… once I can convince Chad to get up on a ladder and change the light fitting in our room over to a pendant.. one day!

oh! and as promised, the bib necklaces from earlier in the week can be purchased here, here and here
